UPDATE: Philadelphia City Council Vote on CreativePHL Permanence Moves to Thursday, June 11 Dear Arts Advocate, We wanted to share an important update regarding legislation to establish Creative Philadelphia as a permanent office within the City of Philadelphia. Philadelphia City Council’s vote on this critical arts policy priority has been postponed until Thursday, June 11, which will be the final City Council session before summer recess. Councilmember Isaiah Thomas’ office and Creative PHL have confirmed that City Council’s vote on the ordinance, which was originally scheduled for June 4, has been delayed due to a technical administrative error in the legislation passed by the Law and Government Committee. While the timeline has shifted, the importance of this legislation has not. Establishing Creative Philadelphia as a permanent, Cabinet-level office would ensure that arts and culture remain embedded in Philadelphia's government structure for years to come—providing stability, visibility, and long-term support for the city's creative sector. We encourage our members, partners, artists, and cultural supporters to continue advocating for passage of this legislation. One of the most effective ways to help is by submitting written testimony or public comment in support of making Creative Philadelphia a permanent office. Comments and written testimony can be sent directly to: Dave Maynard Legislative Director, Councilmember Isaiah Thomas [email protected] Michele DiPietro Executive Assistant to the Council President [email protected] Thank you for your continued advocacy and support. We will share additional details about the June 11 vote and opportunities to participate as they become available. Together, we can help ensure arts and culture remain a permanent priority in Philadelphia's civic future. |
