Advocacy Alert

Dear Arts Advocate,

The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance is calling on community members and advocates like you to continue the fight to help protect and expand federal funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

Amid the disruption of the federal government shutdown that began on October 1, 2025, Congress continues to debate critical legislation, including the Interior Appropriations bill, which determines funding for the NEA and NEH. Weakening amendments could still be introduced that threaten to slash support for these vital agencies.

Your voice can help change this. Now more than ever, we need to show lawmakers—and the nation—why the arts and humanities matter.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Record your story. Create a 30-second video answering the prompt: “The arts and humanities gave me ____ when ____.”

    • Example: “The arts gave me confidence when I found my voice on stage.”

    • Every story makes a difference. You can be part of the national movement. Visit this webpage to record your story and see how others are celebrating the power of creativity, culture, and connection across the nation.

  2. Share it widely. Post your story on social media and tag your friends to join the movement.

    • Use hashtags: #50Stories50States #NationalArtsAndHumanitiesMonth #StoriesUniteUs

    • Tag your congressional representatives to let them know why arts funding matters to you.

  3. Send a message to Congress. Urge your Congressional representative to vote NO on any cuts to NEA and NEH funding and to champion expanded investment in the arts and humanities.

The Cultural Alliance will remain vigilant by monitoring congressional actions and providing timely updates to you and our allies. Together, we can ensure that the arts and humanities continue to inspire, educate, and unite communities for generations to come.
